No better introduction to the current global environmental crises is available than the United Nations' huge, important, free-to-download document, the GEO-6 Environmental Outlook of 2019. Here's some of what it says:

Each year at least 900 million people die from exposure to air and water pollution
77% of the Earth's agricultural land is dedicated to meat production
30% of all the Earth's food is wasted
41% of the Earth's amphibians (frogs, salamanders...) are threatened with extinction

New information:

The Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change's 2023 Synthesis Report AR6, freely available in PDF format, concludes that "There is a rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all." Much scientific data is provided to support this forecast.
