Excerpts from Jim Conrad's
Naturalist Newsletter

from the February 2, 2007 Newsletter, visit to Cerro la Joya, N21.43° W99.13°, elevation ~2800m (9200ft), in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, northeastern Querétaro state, central MÉXICO
DANGLING CACTUS

Even in the Joya's cold, moist forest, cacti often put on a show. In certain areas tree limbs were draped with the slender, dangling stems shown below, on a mossy tree-stub topped with a gorgeously red-flowering bromeliad, Tilandsia imperialis, below:

Rat-tail Cactus, APOROCACTUS FLAGELLIFORMIS

Bearing no flowers, and with my camera unable to focus close-up to show the spines, I'm not sure what species this is, but it might be what people call the Rat-tail Cactus.
