SIERRA NEVADA FOOTHILLS

Location of the Sierra Nevada Foothills Here the Sierra Nevada Foothills are defined as more or less coinciding with the Ponderosa Pine-dominated forests on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Elevations of this zone vary, depending on the latitude:
Note that Jim studied just east of Placerville, mostly between 2600-4500 feet in elevation, so species appearing only above and below those elevations were not encountered. For example, just below Jim's elevation Blue Oak was abundant, but Jim never saw a single Blue Oak tree during his hikes.
